Sunday 20 August 2017

               Welcome to  Week 6

Happy Book Week 2017!

Last Friday we enjoyed the visit from the well loved author, Andrew Daddo.  He was a brilliant presenter and kept us all laughing with his great stories mainly based on his experiences as a child. Year 4 were very motivated to write their own stories when they returned to the classroom.
There are many events planned to celebrate Book Week and the joy of reading with details sent home last week on the green note from Mrs Walter.

Tuesday is the Book Week parade. This is meant to be a fun and easy event, not to cause any stress to families. Year 4 have been reading Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda this term. We have suggested to the children who are having difficulty thinking of something to dress up as, that they might want to come as a character from this book - jeans, shirt, boots, backpack etc - similar to what you wear going on a bush walk/ hiking.

A message from Mrs Walter:
BOOK PARADE- TUESDAY 22nd August @ 9am in the School Hall
All the children and teachers are invited to take part in the Book Week Parade. All parents are welcome to come and watch. The children are to come to school dressed in their outfit. They will remain in their outfit all day therefore they must have enclosed shoes on their feet and their outfit should be simple and comfortable.
The BOOK WEEK theme is “Escape to Everywhere”.
The Book Parade is a fun way to celebrate Book Week and the Book Fair and shouldn’t be a stressful time for parents with regard to costumes. The children can come dressed as a favourite character from a book OR come dressed as anything or person that could be found in any book housed in a primary school library. Play clothes would be fine if you are stuck for ideas as there are plenty of girl characters (Billie.B.Brown, Juliette The Vet, Zac Power, Charlie Bucket etc) that don’t wear special costumes.
We have books on everything in the library, so children can be dressed in anything from animals, superheroes, sports gear, clowns, magicians, cooks, robots, aliens…whatever is easiest for you but no weapons please. Each class will parade around the Hall, but there will not be any prizes awarded. The children DO NOT have to have a book to reflect their outfit.

Welcome to Week 5 Term 3

Welcome to Week 5.
This Tuesday we will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption Mass with St Angela's school. It will take place in the OLOR church. All welcome.
Religious Literacy Assessment
The Year 4 children have been busy over the last week completing the written components of the Religious Literacy Assessment (RLA). They have been asked to choose either the parable of The Prodigal Son or the story of Zaccheaus the Tax Collector and have written responses about these stories. During this week the students will be looking at the Sacrament of Reconciliation and how this helps them to renew their relationship with God.

This week they will also be involved in planning for the creative part of the RLA. This is a creative response of their choice to their chosen gospel. We encourage you to talk to your child about what they have chosen to do for their creative response. During this week they will bring home a list of items they may need to complete their project. The school will provide many materials, however some materials may need to provided from home.
e.g. shoe boxes for dioramas, canvas boards for paintings, lego to make characters. The children will be completing their creative project on Wednesday and Thursday NEXT WEEK.
