Welcome to Week 9 Term 2

Hi Year 4 families,

We hope you have all enjoyed the weekend with your beautiful children.

The children will be continuing to work hard at school during these last two weeks before the holidays. This week and next they will be presenting their family speech to their class. We are looking forward to seeing how they have progressed with their public speaking skills. If your child has any questions regarding this task please ask them to speak to their teacher.

Last week the students were given a new sports carnival note to be completed and signed.  Please return these to school ASAP. The new date for the Athletics Carnival is Thursday 29th June (week 10). We are all praying for fine weather!


This Friday the students will be bringing home their Semester 1 report. 
Just a reminder if you would like a parent teacher interview with you child's teacher and have not yet organised one we recommend you book ASAP as time slots are almost all filled. We are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's progress.

Welcome to Week 8 Term 2

Greetings! We hope the Long Weekend was restful and relaxing for all our Year 4 students and families.

Parent Teacher interviews

Just a reminder that Parent Teacher Interviews are being held towards the end of this term. If you would like to see your child's teacher remember to book a time. The booking details were emailed to parents last Friday.

A request from Mrs Prince for students in 4B 

In Health and bike safety 4B are currently completing a research project on cycling paths in the local area. 

It would be useful if they could bring in some research materials to assist them.  

Maybe a map of the local paths, photos of the cycling paths or information about them.  

Some info can be found on 'tracks and trails - the Hills'. 

They will be completing this task on Wednesday 14th June.

Also in Week 10- Wednesday 28 th June 4B will be completing their practical session on bike safety. This is the day the children who have indicated they are able to bring their bike/ helmet to school need to do so. Any questions please contact Mrs Prince. 
(Please note 4G & 4W will be completing the Bike safety rotation in Term 3 or 4)

Family Presentations / Speeches

The Year 4 children should be continuing to work on preparing for their oral presentation / speech on their family. The children are expected to present these during Weeks 9 & 10 of this term. Please ask your child to speak to their teacher if they require any assistance with their presentation. We will be sending home a marking criteria guide during this week.

Welcome to Week 7 Term 2

OLOR Primary Athletics Carnival will take place this Thursday 8th June at Henry Whaling Reserve Baulkham Hills (Roxborough Park) If your child is travelling by bus to the carnival it is important they are at school by the bell. If your child is travelling to or from the carnival by car they MUST see their class teacher when they arrive at the ground and before they leave to have their name marked off. If you need to change your child's travelling arrangements for the day please advise your child's teacher ASAP. Students are welcome to come dressed in clothes for their house colour on the day. 

We are looking forward to a fun day!

The Year 4 children should be well on their way in preparing for their oral presentation / speech on their family, which is due to be presented at the end of this term. This outline has been in the children's homework book since the beginning of the term. If your child requires help or direction with this task please ask them to speak to their teacher.

Just a reminder that the school athletics carnival will be held on Thursday next week (8th June). If your child has not yet returned their permission note please do so ASAP.

The Sport teachers recently sent home a note regarding the Bike Safety program they will be running with the Year 4 students. They have asked that the permission slip be returned to school if you have not yet done so.

Welcome to Week 5 Term 2

YEAR 4 - Week 5

It was lovely to have so many mums, grandmothers and other friends and relatives visit OLOR last Friday. We hope everyone who came enjoyed visiting the classrooms and spending time with your beautiful children. 

This week the Year 4 students will be changing their Sports day to TUESDAY. This is due to our Mass at St Angela's on Wednesday 24 th May. The children need to wear their SPORTS UNIFORM on TUESDAY and their full WINTER UNIFORM on WEDNESDAY please. This change is only for this week. 

In Maths during the next two weeks the children will be learning about multiplication. In class we regularly play games and do activities to consolidate multiplication facts and tables. It would be benefitual for the children to practise their multiplication tables at home, as quick recall is developed through drill and practise. There are many apps and games available to assist students consolidate their times tables.

On Monday the Year 4 students will be involved in a Cyber safety talk by Constable Rob Paterson from Castle Hill police. We encourage you to talk to your child about what they have learnt from the talk, particularly focusing on safe use of social media, gaming, the internet and technology. We are sure your child will find the talk very informative and interesting.

A reminder to return Sports carnival and St Angela's visit permission slips if you haven't already done so. Thank you!

Good luck to the Year 4 students participating in the Rugby league Gala Day on Wednesday.

 Student Feedback at OLOR

Here at OLOR, we believe that meaningful feedback can greatly enhance learning and improve student achievement. Successful feedback for students allows them to identify their strengths along with areas for development and then plan, with their teacher, the next step in their learning.

An example of a feedback process used at OLOR is from John Hattie, a renowned researcher in education:

The above process creates a positive impact on student learning, because guidance is constantly provided during learning tasks.  Feedback needs to be specific to both acknowledge a child’s effort and/or improvement and give direction for their future endeavours.

Here at OLOR, we use the following feedback techniques:

• Verbal feedback
• Peer assessment where students receive positive or helpful advice from their peers
• Self assessment where teachers guide students to analyse their work to help develop their skills
• Data walls in the classroom to track student’s growth
• 1:1 conferencing
• Written feedback (marking books)
• Electronic feedback
• Small group feedback

As you can see written or electronic annotations, while important, are only one aspect of our feedback process.  Therefore, not every piece of written or online work will have teacher comments provided.

There is little evidence to suggest that extensive written comments, often in different coloured pens, have a big impact on pupil progress. Welcome to Week 3 Term 2

We wish all our lovely Year 4 Mums a Happy Mother's Day for Sunday! We hope you are spoilt.

Homework: Just a reminder children should be completing Mathletics tasks that are set by the class teacher each week. We appreciate your encouragement with this. We are encouraging the children to return their Homework books to school each Friday. We would appreciate it if you could sign the grid to indicate they have completed the set tasks as well as their home reading for the week. Just a reminder the Talking and Listening activity doesn't have to be handed in weekly, but we are more than happy to check it if your child would like us to.

Term overview: Early this week your child will be bringing home the Year 4 overview for Term 2. This will outline the teaching / learning programs your child will be involved in this week.

Winter uniform: Students need to be in full winter uniform in week 4.

Congratulations to the following Year 4 students who competed in the Diocesan Cross Country last Tuesday: Gabriella M, Emma P, Isobel P, Emerson S, Luca C, Sam H, Joshua H, Gabriel K, Ryan M, Mac O, Georgia B, Sophie M, Alexandra M, Elana R, Lilly S, Eliyah P, Ryan C. We are very proud of all of you!!!
Special congratulations to Joshua Hogan who made it through to represent Parramatta at the NSW Catholic Primary Schools Cross Country in June.
